Calcium Iron Cored Wire (Calcium Iron Alloy Cored Wire) is an alloy cored wire made by mixing metallic calcium with a certain proportion of iron powder and coating it with a steel strip. The core material consists of 28%-35% calcium granules and 65%-72% iron powder, wrapped in cold-rolled low-carbon steel strips.
Due to the stringent requirements of major steel companies for low-carbon steel, ultra-low-carbon steel, low silicon steel and the morphology and quantity of inclusions, calcium treatment in pure steel generally uses calcium iron cored wire.
Why Use CaFe Cored Wire?
Calcium Iron Cored Wire is widely used in the steelmaking process for the following reasons:
- Efficient Deoxidizer: Calcium is a strong deoxidizer, but due to its lightweight and low melting point, it tends to form bubbles at high temperatures and does not easily penetrate deep into the molten steel. The Calcium Iron Cored Wire increases the weight and melting temperature of calcium, allowing it to quickly sink into the molten steel and effectively deoxidize.
- Cost Reduction: Iron powder not only increases the weight of calcium but also reduces the evaporation rate of calcium, minimizing wastage and lowering production costs.
- Improved Steel Quality: During steelmaking, Calcium Iron Cored Wire can prevent the formation of long strip-shaped sulfide inclusions, improving the anisotropy of the steel and enhancing its quality.
- Safety: The use of Calcium Iron Cored Wire avoids the violent splashing caused by calcium vaporization in molten steel, extending the service life of electrodes and refining furnaces.

Calcium Iron Cored Wire Specifications
| Type | Main composition(%) | Inside powder weight(g/m) | Steel strip thickness(mm) | Cored wire diameter(mm) |
| CaFe | Ca:28-35 | 230-250 | 0.4±0.2 | 13-13.5 |
Advantages of CaFe Cored Wire
- Effective Deoxidation and Desulfurization: The Calcium Iron Cored Wire rapidly dissolves in the deep parts of the molten steel during the steelmaking process, effectively removing inclusions and improving the purity of the molten steel.
- Improved Steel Properties: Using Calcium Iron Cored Wire prevents the formation of long strip-shaped sulfide inclusions, enhancing the anisotropy of the steel and making its properties more uniform in all directions.
- Stable Composition: The Calcium Iron Cored Wire allows for fine-tuning of the molten steel composition, increasing the yield of metals and rare earth elements, ensuring compositional stability, reducing the amount of precious metals added, and lowering refining costs.
